How to Choose Nesting Coffee Tables for a Small Living Room

Posted by Mickey Crespo on

Nesting coffee tables can work well in a small living room when both pieces have a useful place to go. Compare the set in two arrangements: together in front of your seating, and separated for everyday use. The right choice depends on the floor space, walking routes and reachable tabletop you need, as well as how the smaller table fits beneath the larger one.

Will nesting tables actually save space?

They can reduce the space occupied by two separate tables while nested, but the amount depends on their design. Look for a photograph showing the complete nested arrangement. Check how far the smaller table slides underneath and whether its base or tabletop still projects outward.

Give the smaller piece a destination when separated, such as beside an armchair. If that position blocks a doorway or has no practical use, compare a single table instead. Browse the Living Room Essentials collection alongside your room plan.

Which measurements should you compare?

Record the width and depth of the available floor area with your seating in its normal position. For each table, check:

  • The tabletop diameter for a round table, or width and depth for another shape.
  • The assembled height of each piece.
  • The base footprint, including any legs that extend beyond the tabletop.
  • The total width and depth of the nested arrangement.

Two individual tabletop measurements do not establish the nested footprint. If the listing leaves that measurement unclear, ask for it. Keep the figures attached to the exact finish or variant you intend to order; a shared product page may contain several options.

How can you test the layout before buying?

Use sheets of paper to mark both table outlines on the floor. Try the nested arrangement first, then move the smaller outline to its separate position. Walk from the doorway to the sofa and around the seating area. Repeat the route carrying something you normally bring into the room, such as a laundry basket.

Open nearby cabinet doors and drawers. Extend a recliner or unfold a sofa bed if you use one. Keep the space those movements require. A table can fit inside an empty rectangle yet obstruct the room once furniture is in use.

What height and reach work with your seating?

Measure the height of your sofa seat and compare it with both table heights. From your normal seated position, consider where you would reach for a cup or remote. Check the smaller table beside the chair where you plan to use it, too. The same table may be convenient in one position and awkward in another.

Does a finish name tell you the material?

A finish name describes an option, but it does not establish the tabletop construction or care requirements. Ask about the top, surface finish and legs separately. Confirm the cleaning instructions for that selection before choosing a cleaner or deciding whether the surface suits your routine.

The aboxoo round nesting table set in Black Marble includes two tables. Its listing offers several finishes and advises confirming dimensions, materials and assembly details for the chosen option. The current description does not provide those dimensions. Confirm them before using this set in a measured layout; the words “Black Marble” alone do not confirm solid marble construction.

What should you check before ordering?

List the items you want on the tables: drinks, a remote, books or a tray. Allow usable space for them before adding decorative pieces. Then review your notes: each table’s dimensions, the nested footprint, walking routes, materials, assembly and care. Read the store’s delivery and return information for the order.

If a missing detail affects the fit, send Dachell a product question with the product name, selected finish and measurement you need. Resolve that detail before ordering.
